PRODUCT DETAILS
- ideal for working with both hands
- suitable for felling and splitting
- double-wedged handle
The Böker Plus Appalachian axes feature a Rhenish-shaped ax head made from 1055 carbon steel. This choice represents an above-average carbon content and material standard, even for quality axes.
The universal blade thickness is equally suitable for felling and splitting. The lower tip (heel) of the 10.7 cm long cutting edge can be used as a turning nose for pieces of wood. The material is protected from rust by a protective varnish. The versatile weight of 600 g was chosen for the heads of both axes. The best long-fiber American hickory is used for the handles, which is far superior to European ash in terms of breaking elasticity and shock load tolerance. The handles are double wedged with a wooden wedge and steel sleeve. The two models Appalachian Big and Appalachian Small differ in the length of the ax handles.
With a 48 cm long handle made from the best American hickory wood, this is the longer of the two axes. The overall weight difference is negligible compared to the smaller axe. The longer handle with the same head weight leads to a higher striking speed and thus a higher impulse and greater depth of penetration into the wood. This ax is the choice for sustained two-handed work. Delivery without leather sheath.
