With the classically elegant Böker MG-42 Damascus Dagger gets the crown of historical Böker Damascus steel projects another gem. Above all, due to the then revolutionary production technology with the consistent use of stamped sheet metal parts, exceptional reliability and user-friendliness and a previously unknown cadence, the MG-42 is one of the internationally recognized milestones in weapons technology.

Raw materials and production time had increasingly become critical and decisive factors as the war progressed. The Army Weapons Office was therefore looking for a successor to the MG-34, which was already impressive in its function, but required too much time and material due to its complex production. The new machine gun was also intended to serve as a standard weapon and serve as a light, anti-aircraft, on-board and anti-aircraft machine gun. Since the central task was not to improve the product, but rather to optimize the manufacturing process, it was not a weapons expert but rather a proven mass production specialist who was commissioned to design the new product. The choice fell on Werner Gruner, mechanical engineer at the Johannes Großfuß metal and paintworks factory. Gruner was probably supported in the development by experienced weapons designers. The consistent use of stamped sheet metal parts instead of milled parts and the lack of care for non-functional details made it possible to build a weapon that was even more reliable than its predecessor, while significantly reducing production time and costs. Almost trouble-free function and firing accuracy in all weather conditions, the ability to change hot barrels within seconds and a rate of 1,500 rounds per minute (25 rounds per second) established the reputation of the MG-42. A brake in the form of additional mass in the breech cavity made it possible to reduce the immense cadence to 700 rounds/minute and thus reduce ammunition consumption. A roller closure controlled by a curved piece made these impressive technical characteristics possible. In a slightly modified form, the MG-42 is still the standard MG of the German Bundeswehr today as the MG 3. Rare originals from World War II fetch between $40,000 and $60,000 at Rock Island Auctions.

The steel of the MG-42 is forged by the long-standing and experienced partner of Böker Chad Nicols talks about the heart of the dagger, the double-edged blade with a subtle groove on both sides. The selected Damascus pattern Low Layer Raindrop (40 layers) is shown to its best advantage thanks to the symmetrical profile of the blade.

The dagger's toggle and pommel are made of solid stainless steel. The cooling fins and gas outlets of the recoil amplifier (actually a combined component with the functions of recoil amplifier, flash hider and barrel guide sleeve) were incorporated into the pommel as a design element. Nevertheless, here too the form followed function, because the grooves increase the grip of the dagger in the lapel handle. The toggle and knob seamlessly hold the barrel-shaped roller made of polished desert ironwood, which automatically centers itself in the hand due to its shape.

The dagger is equipped with a high-quality sheath made of dark brown leather with a belt loop and reinforcement. Delivered with an elegant frame case for a seemingly floating presentation, certificate of authenticity and individual serial number.
