In 1919, Ernst Apel Sr. founded his company to manufacture dental supplies. After the factory was completely destroyed by the bombing of Würzburg during World War II, the development and production of the first telescopic sight mounts began as early as 1945 in cooperation with Frankonia. In 1955, the company registered its first utility model, EAW. Since then, EAW has become synonymous with stable and repeatable mounts in many parts of the world, most notably the famous EAW swing mount.
