Silencers reduce recoil as well as noise at the source. This protects the surrounding area (e.g., Jagdhunde) from noise pollution. They almost completely eliminate muzzle flash, making it easier to observe the reaction and direction of flight of game in low light conditions. The silencer should always be removed before firing to prevent damage to the baffles. Penetrating oils are recommended for cleaning and preserving silencers. High-temperature greases are effective for maintaining the threads.
