Transfer bar for added security.
This safety device is regularly found in revolvers with a firing pin integrated into the frame. To put it simply, the hammer cannot reach the firing pin unless the transfer bar is "pushed" together to transfer the hammer's impact to the firing pin. The transfer bar only slides between the hammer and firing pin when the trigger is fully pulled.
