Bolt-action shooting is the king of all rapid following shot disciplines, and here the RX.HELIX performs masterfully.
Straight-pull repeating rifle
The MERKEL RX combines a rotating bolt head with true linear bolt action when firing – without the slightest rotational or tipping movement to cause disturbance as with other straight-pull bolt-action rifles. The eye remains on the target, with the bolt handle exactly above the trigger. The straight stock, which reflects the tradition of Merkel’s Africa rifles, provides the stability needed for this movement.
Straight pull, translated
The linear motion of the bolt handle is transmitted to the bolt head in a 1:2 ratio, traveling gently in a special helical path system and moving quietly in and out of the locking position. This translates the bolt action path to ensure the fastest shot repetition. This enables quicker targeting and thus more precise following shots.
Stay on target
During repetition the bolt does not move over the stock handle towards the marksman’s eye, which disturbs targeting with conventional actions. In the Helix action, movement takes place only within the action housing instead. The eye remains undisturbed and on the target. And now the second shot: set off by a crisp, finely adjustable single-action trigger – ergonomic shooting at its best.
